Every year, I try and do a reminder blog to highlight the importance of neutering and spaying. Environmental changes mean kittens are popping up in rescue all year round now, but this time of year is most definitely mating season, and in the UK, rescues are inundated with nursing mothers, pregnant queens and injured toms.
It\u2019s easy to anthropomorphise this situation, because cats are extremely intelligent animals. But in this instance, it\u2019s important not to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as the obvious reason – the population explosion that\u2019s occurring – there are SO many health benefits for a cat who is neutered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mating isn\u2019t an act of affection for cats. It\u2019s hormonally driven to ensure the species continues. Any rescuer will tell you at present, that\u2019s not a threat to them. Their behaviour in this matter is solely instinctual, not emotion based. This article has the viewpoint of one UK rescue, but there are many more experiencing the same thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
