The internet is a part of most people\u2019s daily lives now. And\nvery few people don\u2019t have some sort of social media account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cat rescues are recognising this fact and moving with the\ntimes. A lot of rescues use social media to network for assistance or circulate\nthe cats they have needing homes. It\u2019s invaluable and I\u2019ve absolutely no doubt\nthat used responsibly it\u2019s made a massive difference to a lot of cats lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A lot of cats that are posted with requests for assistance\nare networked quickly, and rescue spaces secured for them, which a lot of the\ntimes is a lifesaving change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the internet is also a place that opportunists\nregularly obtain cats from for less genuine reasons. A lot of larger charity organisations\nare picking up on the fact that \u201cbait\u201d is sourced for dog fighting\norganisations via online resources. Less severe, but ultimately also not ideal,\npeople take free to good home cats in off adverts on a whim, and then lose\ninterest in caring for them quickly, meaning the cat has no sense of stability\nas they\u2019re passed from home to home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Used correctly, the internet is a valuable resource for animal rescue. But it has to be utilised the right way. When rescues get enquiries about any cat in their care, they have discussions, home checks and follow up checks to ensure the safety of their charge. Without that, there\u2019s no guarantee the offer of a home is a safe one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
