Beautiful Like Me….

I’ve always been fascinated by the fact that some pedigree breeds in effect originated from genetic mutations that humans happened to find appealing. Naturally, the fact they’re considered mutations means they often come with health conditions that other cats don’t have to navigate.

Throughout history, there are sporadic reports of cats that are seen as a phenomena. One such instance occurred in 1949, and is referred to as
”The Attercliffe Wonder.” The cat in question – who resided in Sheffield, UK – developed “strange lumps on their back, which appeared to be feather like or fur covered.” There’s little more information on this cat, potentially due to when the story was reported.

Among the more recent reports of such an instance, is this little guy. Seven month old Dobby is currently in foster under rescue care. He’s in Alabama, and funds are being raised for underbite surgery, as that’s one of the conditions he has that will impact his quality of life. Aside from the underbite, it seems his other differences are mostly aesthetic and Dobby is a happy, affectionate boy. His unique appearance has, as expected, resulted in a lot of media attention and multiple offers of a home. You can see Dobby and learn more about him here:

Hoping Dobbys surgery goes smoothly and he’s settling into his new forever home very soon.
