Cat Crisis…

A couple of years ago, I wrote a blog about the law changes surrounding microchipping cats in the UK. I mentioned that the next step to offering a little more protection to the feline population was making neutering a compulsory part of cat “ownership.”

Unfortunately, while multiple petitions have been created to push for this move, it’s yet to be discussed in the Houses Of Parliament. The figures from UK organisations illustrate a “cat crisis” and state mass multi cat rescues have surged by 67% in a year.

Cats don’t view reproduction as a fun activity; for the females especially, it’s actually a painful experience that their hormones are simply compelling then to pursue. And with the figures constantly increasing on the number of strays and ferals needing assistance, as well as a rise in cats being surrendered due to the rising cost of living, the only logical conclusion to reach for anyone who loves cats is that they should neuter their feline family member.

I’m painfully aware of how many blogs I’ve written either about, or touching on, the necessity to neuter. But it remains a growing concern for animal welfare organisations, cat rescues and genuine cat lovers who are listening to people actively involved in the bigger picture. Cats are extremely intelligent creatures, but their instinct to reproduce is purely that. Protecting cats as a whole species relies on humans caring enough to understand neutering is in their best interests.
