This month, cat related content on social media
featured a post about law changes in the Netherlands, so I did a quick search to confirm the information. From January 1st, 2026, there has indeed been a ban on breeding, selling and new ownership of Spyhnx and Scottish Fold cats.
In the comments section on the post that made me aware of the changes, there were a few responses from people who stated the new law was unfair to reputable breeders. My own personal opinion is that a more responsible approach is exactly what the Netherlands are attempting to put in place with the law. While I absolutely appreciate the beauty of both these breeds, I also recognise that the way they’re bred makes them more likely to be susceptible to issues your standard DSH isn’t.
